We the Heads of the African Correctional/Prisons/Penitentiary Services from Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Central African Republic, La Cote D’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Eswatini, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Having gathered for the 5th African Correctional Services Association (ACSA) Biennial Conference at the Ouaga 2000 International Conference Centre, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso under the theme, “Deepening Reforms in the Correctional/Prisons/Penitentiary Services": A Critical Objective” from 27th to 31st May, 2018;
Commending the Government and the people of the Republic of Burkina Faso as well as the Direction General of Prison Service of Burkina Faso for having successfully hosted the 5th ACSA Biennial Conference;
Appreciating the Minister of Justice, Keeper of the Seals, Monsieur Rene Bessole Bagoro of the Republic of Burkina Faso for officiating at the opening of the 5th ACSA Biennial Conference;
Acknowledging the important role of Correctional/Prisons/Penitentiary Services in national, regional, continental security and national development;
Observing with concern that poor funding of Correctional/Prisons/Penitentiary Services still exists across the continent leading to inadequate rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders; Imploring Governments of Member States to increase funding and support to Correctional/Prisons/Penitentiary Services; click here to read more...
